5/28/2023 0 Comments Basilisk ii armThe G-Cells created by the G-Virus were capable of creating totally new human-based brains. There is actually some precedence for this in the Resident Evil series: the NE-α was an artificial brain created using the t-Virus which could boost its own processing power by "plugging" into other brains ( like a dual-core CPU). This computer was biological in nature and was created using the Basilisk Virus. The Vasilisk System was a supercomputer used to create complex simulations for the Vasilisk Corporation (which was named after the computer). After Vasilisk Corporation agent Apis Lavine lost his right arm, he was given a replacement arm comprised of Basilisk Cells and cybernetic parts. This was owing to the power of the G-Virus to form new body parts. The Basilisk Virus was also used to create artificial limbs for amputees. Thanks to the same potential to recreate other animals, the Basilisk Virus was also seemingly used to clone older B.O.W.s previously created by the Umbrella Corporation. The distinction is sometimes impossible to identify thanks to the G-Virus' ability to create new life. Some of these mutants may not even have been human-based, like the Clan Bosses. These creatures could also have been created in much the same way the Hunter was – by splicing animal genes into human embryos while using the virus (in this case Basilisk) as a retroviral vector. This was seemingly used for Basilisk as well - the Vasilisk Corporation created many B.O.W.s that resembed an assortment of different kinds of animals. Other humans, such as Ada Wong, could even be perfectly replicated by the virus. Using the power of the G-Virus to create new cells using foreign DNA, the C-Virus could replicate other animals using human hosts. Many Basilsik B.O.W.s had traits taken from a varity of animals, which this assimilation could account for. With each new animal used in Basilisk experiments, the virus would continue to assimilate traits from distinct species, then use them in the construction of Basilisk cells. The eyeball growths synonymous with G-Virus infection were seemingly removed in Basilisk, much like they were with t+G. The glowing eyes, red flesh, and serpentine features of Basilisk monsters is what gave them their demonic appearance. Oftentimes, only the right eye of Basilisk mutants would glow. They also often developed glowing red eyes, which is a common mutation tendency in Progenitor Virus variants. The snake DNA in Basilisk also caused the emergence of sharp teeth, tails, and scales in many of the creatures. The weakened nature of Basilisk when compared to G may have limited the growth of new cells, making it possible for the host to not be totally consumed in some cases.īasilisk B.O.W.s were often characterized by red, muscle-like tissue and large claws, which were carried over from the G-Virus and resembled the features of G-Birkin. The Basilisk Virus would cause snake-like “Basilisk Cells” to gradually replace the host, which would cause extremely dramatic changes in the biology of the host. Therefore the Hunter uses the genes of lower class organisms with only instinctive old brains such as the brain stem and cerebellum which have been discovered to compensate for cerebral functions and improve controllability. Including reptile DNA could actually help counteract this, for the same reason it helped Hunter intelligence, as described in the biohazard 0 Kaita Shinsho guidebook: Intelligence decline, the bottleneck of human hosts, is caused by the t-Virus thoroughly eroding the dominant cerebral neocortex. One of the major pitfalls of G-Mutants was mental deterioration. It would also ensure the cells developed traits inherent to reptiles - specifically ones desirable in a B.O.W., like predatory evolution.Īnother possible reason for including snake genes could be intelligence. In regard to Basilisk, it is likely that fusing the G-Virus with snake DNA would in effect focus the way the G-Cells would develop, making the virus less unpredictable. This allowed the development of the new cells to be predictable and even controlled, which would consequently allow a person with the right resources and know-how to create any kind of B.O.W. It was revealed with the C-Virus (which also used elements from G) that by introducing animal DNA into the virus, the new cells would replicate the animal. This led to random mutations and eventually to the development of new lifeforms totally distinct from the original host. However, the G-Cells would typically deviate from the host during development due to G’s unfinished nature. These cells were supposed to mimic the cells of the host, creating a perfect copy of them. The G-Virus caused its hosts to be gradually replaced by newly formed "G-Cells". As the Basilisk Virus was primarily based on the G-Virus, understanding how G works is the key to understanding Basilisk.
